By late morning on Saturday, the outfield grass on the Redlands Community Park ball fields was a beautiful shade of green.
About a dozen Redlands Baseball for Youth supporters spent the morning preparing the park for this year’s opening day ceremony, scheduled for 10 a.m. March 3.
“The week before opening day we’ll do clean up,” said Kerry Kenison, vice president of Redlands Baseball for Youth, a part of PONY. “We rake leaves, clean up bleachers, areas of concrete, all the common areas of the park and the bathrooms, and paint.”
More than 1,700 youngsters will use the field throughout the season, Kenison said.
Opening day kicks off with a 7:30 a.m. Pancake Breakfast. The first game is scheduled at noon. The park is on San Bernardino Avenue and Church Street east of Orange Street.
