Stuffed Bears Will Soon Head to Arms of Sick Children

KOLA 99.9 FM's radiothon raised more than $100,000 for Loma Linda University Children's Hospital. The money will be used for to purchase needed equipment and several teddy bears hospital staff give to frightened children.

There was a tremendous outpouring of support from the community to the kids at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital recently.

A total of $128,597 was raised by the KOLA Cares for Kids Radiothon this week. The two-day radiothon, which aired over KOLA 99.9 FM, raised critically-needed funds for lifesaving equipment at Children’s Hospital.

Over 560 bears, representing money pledged by supporters, will go into the arms of the kids at Children’s Hospital. Special thanks to KOLA 99.9 FM, Executive Fitness and Combat Sports, the Ramos Family, the Mathews Family, and all the supporters who donated during the event.

Honoring a Friend

A very uplifting event was held last week with the dedication of the chapel at Loma Linda University Heart & Surgical Hospital, in memory of well-known local businessman and philanthropist Julian A. “Jay” Moss III.

Jay was co-owner of Moss Bros. Auto Group in Riverside, along with his brother, Glenn Moss. Before his passing in 2004, Jay, with his wife, Laura, were supporters of cardiac care programs at Loma Linda University Medical Center, and served on the Loma Linda University International Heart Institute Advisory Council.

After Jay’s passing, Laura invited family and friends to join her in honoring his memory and supporting the International Heart Institute. Laura, her husband, Robert Frusher, friends, and family, were in attendance Aug. 21 to help dedicate the hospital chapel in Jay’s memory.

“It is our hope that those who enter this wonderful chapel, with their hopes and prayers, will feel some of Jay’s spirit, his love for the Lord, and his knowledge of God’s comfort and peace,” Laura Moss-Frusher said.

New Equipment

Proof positive that your help helps kids at Children’s Hospital.

Children’s Hospital recently dedicated an AxiEM neurosurgery equipment, a highly-specialized surgical device used to monitor brain activity in children. Funds for the equipment came from the recent 18th annual Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Foundation Gala, a major fundraising event to raise funds for the kids at Children’s Hospital.

Donors raised about $120,000 in the “fund-an-item” segment of the gala, specifically to purchase a much-needed hospital equipment.

A reception was held Aug. 17 to dedicate the new equipment, where Dr. Alexander Zouros, pediatric neurologist, discussed how the kids would benefit from the cutting edge surgical equipment.
