Update 4:18 p.m.
San Timoteo Canyon Road was shut down Thursday afternoon by the City of Redlands from Live Oak Canyon Road to Barton Road due to flooding, mud and debris.

The road was expected to be closed through the night, city spokesman Carl Baker said.

"Several vehicles have been towed after being stuck in the mud," Baker said. "Sand bags and sand are available to residents across from the City Yards, located on Park Avenue between Kansas and Tennessee streets."

Quality of Life crews with trucks and equipment were checking and clearing city storm drains and extra crews were on standby, Baker said.

Posted 3:53 p.m. Steady rains unleashed flooding Thursday afternoon at the low spot where San Timoteo Canyon Road and Live Oak Canyon Road intersect, and firefighters rescued one person from a stranded vehicle, Cal Fire officials said.

A vehicle "floating" in runoff was reported at the intersection at 2:20 p.m. Nov. 21, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Two Cal Fire engine companies were en route by 2:31 p.m. and one person who was trapped in a vehicle was rescued just after 3 p.m., according to Cal Fire.

Initial reports indicated there were two vehicles stuck in water due to heavy rains.

County roads and Yucaipa city personnel were notified to place signs warning motorists of the flooding, according to the CHP.

Cal Fire-Riverside County officials urged residents "to avoid areas already flooded, especially if the water is already flowing fast. Do not attempt to cross flowing streams. TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN."

San Timoteo Canyon Road and Live Oak Canyon Road intersect just south of the San Bernardino-Riverside county line south of Redlands and west of Beaumont.
