The U.S. House Appropriations Committee voted to include $5 million to build an earthquake warning system. Patch file photo.

Typical Democrat wanting to spend money like Brown’s crazy train. What is an early warningRead More system.. “brace for shock” ? What we need is an early warning system that warns us before a Democrat / Liberal opens his month.

Wow! Talk about Brown-Obama-Democrat Cronyism. Not only can the system be built and installed forRead More less than $500/node, it already has. I helped with one of the nodes with-in the past four years. The system (requiring less than 25 sq.ft. (donated) can be set up similar to a Home WiFi Security Cam with FTP access. Really it can be automatically monitored and maintained for free through a cooperating University. This is merely a $16 million a year hornswoggle going into the crony's pocket. Its dirtier than greedy profit. All that, lying cheating and stealing on top of it. Republicans in office don't deserve to be there because they do not study and know about the communities they represent or what they have already (and recently) funded. They are not doing their jobs in a two party system. Having formerly worked for the DNC the only thing good I can say about democrats is they at least learn their constituencies well enough to manipulate them.

THE PEOPLE don't get it. Every business, Big and SMALL are getting the wrath of THE STATE.. whereRead More do you think Brown got all this money to pull CA out of debt? Trust me we will all pay in the end. We pay taxes beyond reasonable in this state and federally. What is wrong with warnings? Plus more important we should be asking is where is this money going? No one here asked. Do you really think for one second THE STATE cares that they threw away some batteries? I am willing to bet my life that every household in the US threw batteries away in the trash. Plus your dead light bulbs. These laws are only made so they can go digging in trash to fine reason to collect money. Why is it people think anyone trying to make a dollar is evil but the state are loving angles. Better be careful for what you wish for.

Note that this law would NOT have stopped the Isla Vista shooting because the parents did NOT callRead More the local mental health agency as well as the police. Note that by failing to check the California gun registry - available in every patrol car - they would not have even considered issuing such an order because they didn't think there were any firearms in the area - and neither did his parents, apparently. I have a lot of questions regarding this case - and one of them is that given junior had been making violent postings for more than a week or two, why didn't the parents cut off his funds and compel him to return home and be evaluated?

I live in Southern California. Marijuana will be legalized on the next ballot here in California. WeRead More are smart Citizens here in California. There is a reason that Marijuana is on our planet. Remember it is a plant. Here is my opinion. God created this Miracle plant for a reason. Do people not understand the medical benefits that it provides? No, Not unless they have tried it. Most of our population that is against the legalization of Marijuana. Have never even tried it. So how can they give their opinion on this matter. The answer is they can't. How could they? Remember they haven't even tried it. Social costs? What social costs? There is none, Zippo, Zero, Nada. And as far as the benefits go. Look Are we not living in a screwed up economy right now in California? The answer is Hell yes we are. Would the taxation money be beneficial to our Economy. Hell yes it would. It is alright if the tax seems to be a little high. Because eventually it will go down. I as an American Citizen I will due my part and vote yes for the legalization of Marijuana. Taxing Marijuana is the right thing to do. Because the money that is generated through it's sells, Will benefit our whole society. It is a total no brainer. I am actually very surprised that California wasn't the first state to legalize the sale of my favorite plant. I could go on for days about this subject. But I won't bore you to death. I have to go now. I need to go smoke a little pot right now. I hate talking about this subject. It is a waste of my time. Because ignorant people will never understand the power of this so called drug. Drug? What? Marijuana is not a drug. It is a plant. It is not made out of different chemicals. Like drugs are. I'm tired I am going to bed now. Good night all. John B.

I also think he should use his executive power and the bully pulpit to do whatever he can about theRead More minimum wage. But, I think it should be about more than just raising the minimum wage. How we do the minimum wage is completely screwy. Instead of one blanket wage set as the "minimum," there should be a tiered approach, with teenagers who only need jobs for experience and to make a little pocket change earning a lower minimum than older workers who need to earn a living and support families. And there would need to be laws in place to ensure that the differential didn't result in the older workers being discriminated against in hiring decisions as a result of their higher wages.

Catherine ... regarding your last piece of advice ... "Don't give up" ... you may findRead More this quote from Andrew Sullivan following last night's SOTU interesting: "One aspect of his personality and his presidency is sometimes overlooked – and that is persistence. He’s been hailed as a hero and dismissed as irrelevant many times. But when you take a step back and assess what he has done – from ending wars to rescuing the economy to cementing a civil rights revolution to shifting the entire landscape on healthcare – you can see why he believes in persistence. Because it works. It may not win every news cycle; but it keeps coming back. If he persists on healthcare and persists on Iran and persists on grappling, as best we can, with the forces creating such large disparities in wealth, he will look far, far more impressive from the vantage point of history than the news cycle of the Twitterverse sometimes conveys."
