Thousands of people, including residents of Los Angeles, Banning and Mentone, turned out Saturday for Hangar 24 Craft Brewery's Fifth Anniversary and Air Show at Redlands Municipal Airport.

Redlands residents Candy Torres, Andy Cuevas, Bea Phan were among those who sought shade beneath the wings of vintage war planes set out in the spectators area.

University of Redlands grads Kate McCarthy and Tory Haynes came with other U of R alumni to soak up sun and refreshments. Live musicians entertained crowds next to the runway between pilot flight demos.

Anthony Gonzales, 21, and Jessica Shoemaker, 21, both of Banning, found the airfield crowded and sought refuge at the brewery.

"It's hot and sweaty but it worth it," Gonzales said as he and Shoemaker waited in line for beers. "The brewery is the place to be."

The event was planned to go to 10 p.m. Saturday.
