FLASH FLOOD DEATH: Woman Dies in Wash West of Needles

A woman was caught in a flash flood Sunday west of Needles and she was found deceased in her vehicle, San Bernardino County coroner's personnel reported.

On Aug. 25, deputies found a white 2009 Hyundai Sonata about a quarter-mile north of the railroad bridge crossing Sacramento Wash and U.S. 95, that had been caught in a flash flood, according to coroner's personnel.

Jean Gizzy, 77, of Lake Havasu City, "was found still seatbelted in the driver's seat of her vehicle," coroner's personnel said in a statement.

The Sheriff's Department was investigating.

A flash flood watch was in effect again Monday for more potential heavy rain over the mountains and deserts of San Bernardino and Riverside counties, as well as parts of the Inland Empire, as remnants of Tropical Storm Ivo continued tracking north and further west over southwest California.

The same storm system pounded the Coachella Valley, Morongo Valley and other desert areas on Sunday.
