Two-Year-Old Boy Mauled to Death by Pack of Pit Bulls in Colton

Colton police say that five pit bulls were taken away by animal control officers.

A two-year-old boy died this week after he was attacked by family members' pit bulls, authorities reported Tuesday.

The San Bernardino County Coroner's Office says Samuel Zamudio of Rialto was visiting family in the area of W. Citrus Street and N. Rancho Avenue in Colton when he was attacked around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

"Officers responded to the location and found a 2-year-old child suffering from extensive injuries to the upper body," Colton police reported.  "The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, but succumbed to the injuries and passed away."

According to the police department, five "Pit Bull mix dogs" were taken away from the scene by animal control officers.

KTLA News reports that the boy's 23-year-old uncle and 42-year-old grandmother were taken into custody for questioning around 9 p.m. Monday.  Online jail records for the county of San Bernardino indicate the uncle, Marco Zamudio, was booked on child endangerment charges at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
